Thing 18 Podcasting
I think podcasting will serve a very needed function in the classroom of the future. I will not be here, but I can see many uses. It could be used as a review at home,as a way to make up classwork missed, as a way to give work to student who will be out for extended periods of time. Your little short instructions that you give us are kind of like a podcast, aren't they? I listened to a podcast on World Geography Quiz. They would give you hints about places and locations and you were to supply the name of the state. I do a lot of the same things, just not in this form. I have a student right now that only comes two days a week. With planning and time I could podcast my lessons for him to do at home the other three days. I can envision so many good things about podcasting in the near future.

Thing 17 Nings and Microblogging
Classroom 2.0 Nings was once again a massive amount of information. I did not know what to expect. This class has taken me places that I did not know even existed. I really enjoyed the photo and video sections of this site. The forum can be of value to me when I try to set up a PLN. One of the forum's interested me a lot, because I did not realize that you could use Google Earth and go under the ocean. I had to see for myself. It was a learning experience for me.I don't know about setting up a Ning, but I know I will look to them in the future for ideas.
Again, you have me. Twittering has just entered my vocabulary in the past few months. No one in my computer savvy family twitters. I have in the past year been introduced to texting. It has become a staple in my communications.I like it because it is fast and convenient. Plurk is totally new to me. I can see where this could be beneficial as a brainstorming activity. You could throw out a concept and find answers to your concept.Instead of two or three you could come up with hundreds of answers. I can see me using microblogging as a way to help me set up my own professional network.Even after I retire, I can use it to keep up with the educational community.Edmodo could be an interesting classroom tool. I might try it out with one of my classes.

Thing 16 Social Networking
I have never been involved in any type of social networking. My daughter, who is a teacher, has a facebook account and she loves it. Both of my grand daughters have had My space accounts and they are now involved in facebook. I have seen both of these networks cause major problems in my house. I have been ask several times to join facebook but don't feel like it is for me. The only type of social networking I do is e-mail. I know it has it's drawback ,also. It never even crossed my mind that social networking could be used as a professional resource. A lot of the things in this course have made me think. PLNs are a type of network that has a great deal of possibilities. I know they will become a part of my professional activities. Google Docs are also something I have already incorporated into my professional activities. I took this coures for the PLU ,but have received much more than the three PLU.

Thing 15 Google Docs
I have a very limited knowledge of the computer. Google Documents was a total shock to me. I have really gathered so much information in the past few weeks. It is an amazing revelation. Google was a simple search engine in the past. If I wanted some information I could Google it. Now, I have learned it is so much more. The document feature is a tool with so many interesting possibilities. I have gone from storing information in a note book,a hard drive, a disk, a flash drive, and now found Google Docs.I can now have access to my information at work and also at home without the fear of loosing the information. All of my documents are going to be transfered to Google Docs. I really think this is one of the tools I can use even if I retire.

Thing 5c

Are we well on our way to producing a bionic man.Working with handicaped students, i have become quite interested in this field. Prosthetics have come so far in the past few years. They have advanced from the peg leg and hook to some incredible technology. What was once thought of as science fiction is now becoming real life. Take a trip and be amazed.
Thing 13 Voicethreads
This course has introduced me to so many new concepts. They seem to come at me so fast that it makes my brain spin. I have learned so much in the past few weeks. The only computer in the room with a microphone was coach Moore's laptop. It was hard to find time to use it. I really enjoyed exploring the voicethreads, especially Tall Tails. I also enjoyed watching coach Moore's class do a voicethread. I think this technology would serve my needs in the classroom better than a slide show. I teach some of the same kids that coach Moore's has and they seemed to have a great deal of fun with them. The only problem is that most of the classrooms here don't have the technology needed.I would really like to try to do a voicethread in my class at a later time.the room i am in now does not have a computer.

Thing 12 Glogged Up
After much consternation, this site became very enjoyable. It was really fun to see the number of things that could be done in a short period of time. I could envision seeing my students using this site for a Geography project. It would be fun and could be accomplished in a short period of time. It was a lot fun to play with. I really had most of my problems trying to load it on my page.

Thing 5(b)
Teaching Adapted Physical Education has truly had an effect upon my life. I am amazed by the number of things these kids can accomplish despite their disabilities. At how happy they can be while struggling with things we know as simple. We as so called normal people go through life feeling bad because of some everyday pain. Step back and look at how amazing these people can be. An, article in the google reader led me to think about all of this. It was about Phenomenon Man. Here was a child born with no arms and legs, just a body. He is twenty-six years old and can do most things that we take for granted. He can turn on lights, shave, open a faucet, use a phone, use a computer(most likely better than me), swim, play golf, surf, and most of all live. Read the article. you may also be amazed.
Thing 11
My Slide show will be used with my Life Skills Geography class as an introduction to our discussions on mountains, and their effects on the different cultures of the world. How do we perceive the people who live and work in the mountains of the world. Slide com was extremely easy to use especially for an illiterate computer person like me.

Thing 10
Flickr was a massive undertaking. There were so many things to look at. I looked at beach pictures from all over the world for over an hour. Almost any word that crossed my mind, a picture related to that word in some way or another could be found. I struggled for a long time with uses for this in my classroom. I teach a very low level geography class. My students tend to be unmotivated and quickly turned off by things that don't interest them. Our video collection here is very good, and I frequently use them as a visual stimulation while we discuss different aspects of geography. Mountains, rivers, plateaus, valleys, glaciers, are just a few of the things we cover in physical geography. I thought I could use the pictures a visual stimulation, and introduction to the topic that we are going to cover next. The pictures from Invaxion on Flickr were good examples of mountains and there structure. It will make for a good introduction to the lesson. Flickr, and creative common can be a good resource for me in the future.Image by Invaxion on Flickr

Thing 9
Never in my limited internet use have I noticed the cc on any websites I have used. Very seldom do I ever copy anything from them. Most of the students I teach are not required to produce work from the internet. Since I have a limited knowledge of what is proper, I realize that most of my students also have a limited knowledge. A lot of them download pictures, music, and information for their own personal use without even thinking about copy rights. Before taking this class, I did not even know how to upload a video clip or picture to use in my classroom. I think it is very important for all students to understand what they can use and what constitutes infringement. English class is where I first learned the process of research for books and to give the author credit for his works. Do we as educators teach what is proper in computer generated work? I do not know the answer to this . Web 2.0 has afforded me a number of first in my educational life. Sharing information over the internet is one of them. Most of the information i use in my class room is from books and information from the school library. I also have a lot of materials from my past teachers, some things in my head i don't really know where they came from. Negatives, maybe limiting a person research of his topic. My students at the present time, do not use the internet in the classroom, but they should know what is proper usage. As stated before, I don't use anything from the internet. I am excited about the possibilities and look forward to using the internet in my classroom. This class has provided me with much needed information. Thanks!

Thing 7 Wiki Wiki
Wiki ( Quick) first developed in 1995. Where have I been all this time. I still remember when you would go to stores and, receive a written paper bill, when we had grade books, when I typed my masters thesis ten different times. The future is flying at me as I progress in this course. Just learned to turn the computer on, and now I am in the process of discovering the many different ways of using the Wiki. So much so fast; I am some what overwhelmed, but extremely excited at the same time.
In Early Schools: This site lacked a lot, especially for the first grade level. The main page had no color and just started without much introduction. The only reasonI continued on was it brought back memories from the past. I have been involved in schools for the past 56 years as either a student or a teacher. Many things have changed in that time and it was interesting to reflect on some of the comments. I thought it could have used a better introduction, more color, and maybe a few snap shots of times passed.
In Code Blue : This site was very interesting once you got into it. They told me in my education classes that you needed to pull the trigger, cause something that would catch the interest of the student. This site needed something like that. If you were specifically looking for something like this it was good. Really good information that was well organized.
Timeline of Presidents; This was a site that lacked a lot. I can't see this as interesting for second grade students. There was no pop no life. I guess it covered the subject s information, but againI really enjoyed the sites that had more color and action. If some form of animation were added, it would have made it better. Maybe some music of the times.
How am I going to us this tool. I plan to retire at the end of this year, so for me to use it will have to come fast. I know that it will one day be the norm. Just think, with my work schedule the way it is it, would have almost impossible for me to take the class I am taking now.The way things are going there will be no school buildings,no need for school busses. All students will plug into their educational portal with the master instructor for all their educational needs. Good, haven,t quite decided yet, what do you think?

Thing 6
Diigo, what an interesting tool. The ease of use of this site was one of the best things about it. Being able to transfer bookmarks from my computer at school to one at home is going to enable me to be bettered prepared for school. Diigo allows you to work from any location. Coaching takes a lot of time away from my planning time after school. This site will enable me to spend those hours I can't sleep involved in planning. Professionally, diigo will increase both my knowledge, and my ability to make more effective lessons. Hey, what a tool. You use to have to either go to a conference, or wait on a book for new information in you field. Now, it's available at the touch of a button from any location.

Thing 2
Blog writing is more informal, conversational, relaxed. The writer is looking for a response from his audience. Some kind of feedback, new ideas, Is he on the right track, or is he way off base. He wants others to accept his ideas as fact. He is basically trying to sell his ideas to the reader. The reader in return can accept the writers observations, make comments, add information. The premise is ever changing. If I produce an idea and place it on a blog I can get immediate feedback from a diverse audience. Someone out there might come up with something i never though of. This is what education is all about. Blogs include everyone the timid, the strong, the writer, the talker, the person who would never answer in the classroom but might have the missing information. This is the future of education.

thing 1-B
The computer age is upon us. No looking back. We as teachers or students no longer have to wait on printed information. Printed information takes time and is outdated by the time it reaches us, especially books. This technology will enable us to experience the most up to date information. Kids today are a visual community of learners, who are interested on what is happening now. Our world has become so much closer with the computer age. I can see this as a good advancement.
