Thing 18 Podcasting

I think podcasting will serve a very needed function in the classroom of the future. I will not be here, but I can see many uses. It could be used as a review at home,as a way to make up classwork missed, as a way to give work to student who will be out for extended periods of time. Your little short instructions that you give us are kind of like a podcast, aren't they? I listened to a podcast on World Geography Quiz. They would give you hints about places and locations and you were to supply the name of the state. I do a lot of the same things, just not in this form. I have a student right now that only comes two days a week. With planning and time I could podcast my lessons for him to do at home the other three days. I can envision so many good things about podcasting in the near future.

Thing 17 Nings and Microblogging

Classroom 2.0 Nings was once again a massive amount of information. I did not know what to expect. This class has taken me places that I did not know even existed. I really enjoyed the photo and video sections of this site. The forum can be of value to me when I try to set up a PLN. One of the forum's interested me a lot, because I did not realize that you could use Google Earth and go under the ocean. I had to see for myself. It was a learning experience for me.I don't know about setting up a Ning, but I know I will look to them in the future for ideas.

Again, you have me. Twittering has just entered my vocabulary in the past few months. No one in my computer savvy family twitters. I have in the past year been introduced to texting. It has become a staple in my communications.I like it because it is fast and convenient. Plurk is totally new to me. I can see where this could be beneficial as a brainstorming activity. You could throw out a concept and find answers to your concept.Instead of two or three you could come up with hundreds of answers. I can see me using microblogging as a way to help me set up my own professional network.Even after I retire, I can use it to keep up with the educational community.Edmodo could be an interesting classroom tool. I might try it out with one of my classes.

Thing 16 Social Networking

I have never been involved in any type of social networking. My daughter, who is a teacher, has a facebook account and she loves it. Both of my grand daughters have had My space accounts and they are now involved in facebook. I have seen both of these networks cause major problems in my house. I have been ask several times to join facebook but don't feel like it is for me. The only type of social networking I do is e-mail. I know it has it's drawback ,also. It never even crossed my mind that social networking could be used as a professional resource. A lot of the things in this course have made me think. PLNs are a type of network that has a great deal of possibilities. I know they will become a part of my professional activities. Google Docs are also something I have already incorporated into my professional activities. I took this coures for the PLU ,but have received much more than the three PLU.

Thing 15 Google Docs

I have a very limited knowledge of the computer. Google Documents was a total shock to me. I have really gathered so much information in the past few weeks. It is an amazing revelation. Google was a simple search engine in the past. If I wanted some information I could Google it. Now, I have learned it is so much more. The document feature is a tool with so many interesting possibilities. I have gone from storing information in a note book,a hard drive, a disk, a flash drive, and now found Google Docs.I can now have access to my information at work and also at home without the fear of loosing the information. All of my documents are going to be transfered to Google Docs. I really think this is one of the tools I can use even if I retire.

Thing 14 Video Sharing

Viewing several videos on Youtube, for my Geography class, was a very interesting process. I enjoyed many of them, but found Teacher Tube to fit my needs for the classroom better. My grand children first introduced my to Youtube years ago on our home computer. I never thought of Youtube as an educational tool. Most of the videos were far from educational. They usually dealt with funny, entertaining, silliness. I really found Teacher Tube to be more beneficial for my needs both at school and home. I found an ample number of videos in my teaching area. This assignment took me a long time to understand. After much help from Coach Moore and a lot of sweat, its done. The old man is learning so many new things. The video above can be used in my Life Skills Geography class. We just did a lesson on the capitals and you would not believe how many of my student don't know many of them.

Thing 5c

Are we well on our way to producing a bionic man.Working with handicaped students, i have become quite interested in this field. Prosthetics have come so far in the past few years. They have advanced from the peg leg and hook to some incredible technology. What was once thought of as science fiction is now becoming real life. Take a trip and be amazed.

Thing 13 Voicethreads

This course has introduced me to so many new concepts. They seem to come at me so fast that it makes my brain spin. I have learned so much in the past few weeks. The only computer in the room with a microphone was coach Moore's laptop. It was hard to find time to use it. I really enjoyed exploring the voicethreads, especially Tall Tails. I also enjoyed watching coach Moore's class do a voicethread. I think this technology would serve my needs in the classroom better than a slide show. I teach some of the same kids that coach Moore's has and they seemed to have a great deal of fun with them. The only problem is that most of the classrooms here don't have the technology needed.I would really like to try to do a voicethread in my class at a later time.the room i am in now does not have a computer.
